MonkMan Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Hey there people, I've been wanting to upgrade my graphics card for a while now, but i know that in order to do so i will first have to upgrade my power supply. But how do i go about choosing one? Does it have to have the same dimensions? I currently have a GTX 460 and would like to upgrade to this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-GeForce-Graphics-3072MB-Mini-HDMI/dp/tech-data/B0052HJFWK/ref=de_a_smtd According to the Nvidia website i need a minimum of 600W For example would this PSU work with my PC?: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/850w-psu-corsair-enthusiast-series-9020004-modular-85-eff-80-plus-bronze-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet Current PSU Spec: Form Factor: internal ATX Total wattage: 460W Nominal input voltage range: 100-127V/3A (50-60Hz) 200-240V/2A (50-60Hz) [*]Dimensions: 150mm x 140mm x 86mm (5.9 x 5.5 x 3.4 inches) Any Additional Spec Details are here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02681931&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=uk&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=5059357#N1399 Any Advise would be much appreciated, Thanks guys, Quote
KenB Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS 150mm x 140mm x 86mm - dimensions of your present PSU 150 x 86 x 160 (WxHxD) - dimensions of the new one. If your present PSU is 140 mm deep ( i.e. goes into the case 140 mm ) then the new one could fit. It is 20 mm deeper. If you have space behind your present PSU then the new one should be OK. I found this review on your card: http://www.guru3d.com/article/evga-geforce-gtx-580-classified-review/23 I can't see anywhere that refers to it as a "dual slot" - in other words .......a wide card. This does look wide and your tower is a "midi" which may restrict space. Just make sure that there is enough room around the PCIe x 16 slot for the card width.
