Kernel Mode Printer blocking policy is enabled

After doing some Windows updates (Auguest 08 updates), I have an issue with

users no longer having their printer available in the TS. The event viewer

showed the Kernel Mode Printer blocking policy is enabled error.. I have

disabled the following policy - Disallow installation of printers using

kernel-mode drivers. Now I no longer get the error message, but the printer

is still not present. Checking the event log now simply showes the printer

is marked for deletion - Printer xxx in on yyy in session 2 was deleted.

That is the only mention of the printer. All was working fine before the

latest updates were installed. Terminal Server 2003 R2 SP2, with Office 2007

and one other LOB application. I'm about to uninstall the updates that can

be uninstalled tomorrow, if no other suggestions are forthcoming. We also

have an issue with the LOB app also having problems since the updates.

Hoping that it's the same update that is causing both problems.

Any input welcome.

Just a follow up. Doing the obvious of tracking down a newer printer driver

has resolved the printing issue (as far as I can test out of work hours -

the printer shows up, jobs go to the remote computer, so I'm picking it is

good).

Still not sure as to why the issue surfaced in the first place though,

nothing had changed (apart from the windows/office updates) and the setup

has been working for several months.

I would truly consider what happened a blessing. Kernel mode print drivers

are from the days of NT4 and are very, very unstable and cause nothing but

problems. consider this a blessing in disguise if you must but it really,

truly is a good thing that you got a fix for it.

Re: Kernel Mode Printer blocking policy is enabled

Similar problem here- the kernel blocking error suddenly popped up on one of

my Terminal Servers a couple days ago. However, the printers it's

complaining about aren't using kernel mode printers!

If I change the Group Policy to allow kernel mode printers, the printers

will appear, but jobs sent to them just sit in the queue. I'm having some

problems with other redirected printers, too- documents won't print and an

error shows up in th event log.

I've got another identically configured Terminal Server that's behaving just

fine.

Any ideas?
