Guest _adrian Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I've got new drives setup as raid 0 stripe and during XP Pro installation, it sees two different drives (C & D).. but calling both Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 ... so does this mean that windows setup DOES see this as one drive, or is there something unique I need to do in the setup so that windows only sees the raid configuration as the one drive? Each drive is SATA 500G.. Thx
Guest David B. Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Re: installing XP Pro to raid 0 configuration? If the array was set up properly it would only see a single 1TB drive, not both drives of the stripe, double check that you've created the proper array. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 Help Us Help You http://dts-l.net/goodpost.htm "_adrian" <adrian @ test.com> wrote in message news:OtPB9ftBJHA.3200@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > I've got new drives setup as raid 0 stripe and during XP Pro installation, > it sees two different drives (C & D).. but calling both Disk 0 at Id 0 on > bus 0 ... so does this mean that windows setup DOES see this as one drive, > or is there something unique I need to do in the setup so that windows > only sees the raid configuration as the one drive? Guest _adrian Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Re: installing XP Pro to raid 0 configuration? Damn.. thats what I was afraid of. The BIOS sees the array of 1TB striped.. so I'm wondering why windows setup doesnt? Hmmm

Guest _adrian Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Re: installing XP Pro to raid 0 configuration? I suppose that might help.. a friend told me that it shouldn't be necessary, but I guess it is! So I suppose such an animal would be made available by the motherboard manufacturer?
Guest David B. Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Re: installing XP Pro to raid 0 configuration? although normally if you need a driver XP setup would report you have no hard disks, not 2 non RAID disks instead of the array, but I would give it a shot. Yes the motherboard mfg is the place to get the drivers, you'll have to create a driver floppy to feed XP when it asks for the driver disk. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 Help Us Help You http://dts-l.net/goodpost.htm "_adrian" <adrian @ test.com> wrote in message news:evBnMFuBJHA.3396@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... >I suppose that might help.. a friend told me that it shouldn't be >necessary, but I guess it is! Guest _adrian Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Re: installing XP Pro to raid 0 configuration? Well we're closer I think, except that my floppy drive is so old, its actually failing to read any disks. [sigh] guess I have to go to a recycled pc store to find a floppy drive that will work. Note to MSFT, please write next installation process to allow the user to select a drive (USB?) other than A: to load 3rd party RAID or SCSI drivers.... NOBODY uses floppies anymore.
Guest Bob I Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Re: installing XP Pro to raid 0 configuration? Try loading Vista then, it's the new Operating system, XP is pretty dang old. _adrian wrote: > Well we're closer I think, except that my floppy drive is so old, its > actually failing to read any disks. NOBODY uses floppies anymore. In 2001, when Windows XP was released, few people even knew what a flash drive was and even fewer had one! The floppy diskette was then the fastest and easiest way to load drivers via the F6 method. John
Guest Bob I Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Re: installing XP Pro to raid 0 configuration? But it is the option if you "demand" a non-floppy solution. That's a rather expensive solution, personally I'd buy a new floppy drive. Raid being yet an addition of software to that mix.
Guest David B. Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Re: installing XP Pro to raid 0 configuration? Not the only option, the drivers can be slipstreamed into the installation media using Nlite, also much cheaper than shelling out for Vista. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 Help Us Help You http://dts-l.net/goodpost.htm "Bob I" <birelan@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:eZqm5Q6BJHA.2712@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > > But it is the option if you "demand" a non-floppy solution. > > > That's a rather expensive solution, personally I'd buy a new floppy drive. > > > > "Bob I" <birelan@yahoo.com> wrote in message > news:Or0Zfm5BJHA.3496@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... >> Try loading Vista then, it's the new Operating system, XP is pretty dang >> old. >> >> _adrian wrote: >> >>> Well we're closer I think, except that my floppy drive is so old, its >>> actually failing to read any disks.
