Guest Ed Mc Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 In trying to integrate sp3 into the same directory into which I copied my XP cd, I get an error msg. that says: failed to copy some or all the files. A: check that no network or copy errors occurred. And, B: Format of destination is correct etc. The folders are both on a ntfs drive. (If that's what b): means). I'm using the instructions found at: > http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/Slipstreaming_Windows_XP_Service_Pack_3.html Can someone figure out the error of my ways, from the above info.? I'm trying to make a slipstreamed XP boot cd. TIA -- Semper Fi

I'm trying to make a slipstreamed XP boot cd. TIA I can't answer your query unfortunately, but ... have a rhetorical question for you. How are you going to prove that the slipstream works when you're done creating it? I would suggest either a VM or if you're going to test it on a disk, don't use your production disk; use one that's expendable. The majority of slipstreams fail the first time used for many various reasons. I only mention this because of the large number of slipstream posts recently. It's really annoying to have a machine go catastrophic and THEN discover the slipstream doesn't work! And too many of them don't work. You'd be way ahead by turning to Acronis True Image or Norton's Ghost if you're loaded wiht money and image your drives instead. HTH

Guest JS Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Re: Can't slipstream I use AutoStreamer, it's easy to use and for the most part self explanatory Auto Streamer Guide and Download Sites: http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/using_autostreamer/using_autostreamer.shtml http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1092632287/1 Where to download SP3 SP3 file download: (File is large but will only install components that you PC requires) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&DisplayLang=en How to get a free SP3 CD (if you are using dialup internet access) (You pay only the shipping charge) http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsxp/sp3/default.mspx Create a Slip Stream version of Windows XP using SP3 http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/slipstream.htm (Using AutoStreamer) http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp3_cd_final.htm http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/xpsp3_slipstream.asp The slipstreamed CD you create will not include any specific drivers for your motherboard, audio, video, network, etc. Those you will need to download from your PC manufacture's or motherboard's web site. Also: Abbreviated from a post by "Poprivet" You need to 'Test' that slipstreamed CD you created or you may be in for a big surprise, as sometimes they are defective and do not work. TIA Thanks everyone for the replies. I hadn't thought about testing the disk. Since I don't have a disk to test it on, at this time, I guess I'll go the Acronis route. I can get it at my local Costco for $50, with the Disk Director Suite included. -- Semper Fi
