Guest Ben Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 When using the switch user function, the wireless internet gets disconnected. meaning from "user1", i switch user to "user2", and when i get back to "user1", i realise that the wireless internet for "user1" has been disconnected. what settings can be done to allow the internet to be still connected when i switch user?
Guest Andrew E. Guest R. McCarty Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Re: Wireless internet disconection Internet Connections ( Local Area Network and Wireless ) are global. They do not arbitrarily work for one profile and not another. Do you actually think before responding. You needlessly send posters off on non-relevant operations that do not help. Why would Add/Remove programs make any difference at all. If that was the cause then NO network would function for any profile. Also saying check boxes and providing no list or suggestions of which boxes to check is worthless. I recently had this issue with a client, who installed the Wireless manufacturer Utility to manage the connection, while the Windows Zero configuration (WZC) was ON. Both the manufacturer and WZC were conflicting and making the Wireless lose connection on start or after a while of usage. Try to Disable the WZC if you have the wireless Adapter/USB or whatever kind of wireless manufacturer utility installed and Also be sure the Wireless Utility for the manufacturer is Auto running in the servcies. If you have just the windows Wireless utility to manage the wireless connection then proceed: Try this: Open a Run Command and type in: services.msc click [OK]. On the services control Panel scroll down to Windows Zero Wireless configuration and Be sure the service to start Automatically instead of manually. Click Ok then close the services control panel window and Reboot and see if the service will hold it's settings to Auto. Another option to consider is if the computer been configured to Turn off the device for power saving and you can check that through device manager and right click on the wireless connection and select properties then click on Power management , make sure this check box not checked: [ ] Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Reboot your machine and see if the machine will hold the wireless connection. Another if your neighbour using the same wireless channel which can affect your wireless connection if it wasn't set properly in the first place. HTH nass --- http://www.nasstec.co.uk

Try this: = Click Start >> Control panel >> Network and Internet Connections >> Double click Network connections, then right your LAN Icon and select Properties. On the LAN properties under General make sure the Internet Protocol TCP/IP is selected and click Properties. There make sure the Machine Get assigned Automatically IP address and Renter the Encryption Key and the Network SSID then click [OK]. = Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window you will see these Options: General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs | Advanced. Click on Connections tab and make sure the Connection is listed there then click on LAN settings button and uncheck Automatically detect settings. Click [OK] and close Hit F5 and open a run command and type in: ipconfig /flushdns click [OK] ipconfig /renew click [OK] netsh winsock reset click [OK] Download the winsock fix from here: http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html Reboot your machine. If that didn't help try to upgrade the router firmware to the latest version from the router Manufacturer website. Guest nass Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Re: Wireless internet disconection Hi Ben, I may did misunderstood but can you please let us know your Connection settings and what NIC model are you using? Did you update the driver for the NIC from the manufactuer website? What happen if you Disable the LAN (Local Area Coonection) connection and just lef the Wireless Enabled? Make sure to reboot your machine/Laptop. Right click your Wireless and select properties from the drop down list and click on Wireless Networks Tab then in the box for Preferred Networks highlight the Wireless connection name you are using anf click on Properties button. On the NAME of Wireless properties window click on Authentication Tab and uncheck this box if it been checked: [ ] Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network. Click [OK] then [OK] and reboot your machine. Does it help? Make sure the wireless connection is allowed auto access in the Firewall allowed programs control panel. Does the machine get the IP automatically or is it Static? Please describe your connection for us to give clear and focus solution. Guest Ben Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Re: Wireless internet disconection Hi Nass. Currently, i am using wireless internet connection. When i switch user using wireless internet connection, the previous user's internet will be disconnected(message shown as the wireless has limited or no connection.). The network card i am using Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. I have never updated or done anything to the driver of this wireless(all these have been configured in the laptop's school image). I tried using disabling LAN connection, done a restart. After the restart, i opened the Network Connections, and discovered that LAN has been enabled even without me doing anything. what do you mean by : Make sure the wireless connection is allowed auto access in the Firewall allowed programs control panel. i am using windows firewall. The ip address for me is always 192.168.1.100. the address, i guess, is automatically given to me thru my linksys router. over at my laptop, it is set to "obtain a ip address automatically for me". sorry, as i am not a technical expert, i do not really know what you guys are looking for when solving the problem. Guest nass Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Re: Wireless internet disconection Hi Ben, Please try these steps then if it didn't work update the driver from the link provided for Intel site and make sure your Operating system version is correct. Right click the wireless connection and select properties from the drop down list. On the Wireless Network Connections Properties under General click to select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to highlight and click on the Properties Button. On the Internet Protocol TCP/IP Properties make sure the machine get the Auto IP and the DNS then click on Advanced Button under the IP settings Tab make sure the DHCP Enabled and listed under the IP address check this check box: [ ] Automatic mertic Then click on DNS Tab and see these steetings : (*) Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes [ ]Append parent suffixes of the primary DNs suffix [ ] Register this connection addresses in DNS Click on WINS tab and see these settings are set as they on my machine: NetBIOS settings: (*) Default Click [Ok] and back to the Wireless Network Connection Properties and click on Wireless Networks Tab. check this check box: [ ] Use windows to configure my wireless network settings and click [Ok] to close the properties window. Reboot your machine and see if the issue will occure. Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2259&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go! Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2259 Do you have an Antivirus and these users running with admin privileges? Let us know your progress "Ben" wrote: > Hi Nass. > > Currently, i am using wireless internet connection.
