Guest SSJ04 Mewtwo Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I have an older HP CD writer which was purchased back when I was running ME back in 2001. Question, I see in device manager that the device is working properly, but I want to know if I've got just a second CD-ROM or if I can still burn. I've tried going to HP's site, but for some reason you have to buy that driver instead of downloading it like I did for my printer and scanner. Even went as far as to calling them, but they had wanted us to purchase it through the website.

If HP isn't supplying the drivers/firmware/software any longer for your CD-RW, then it's dated and they no longer provide support for it. Other than that, XP may already have the driver/s you need and installed them. If you run into issues post back with detailed info on the exact drive make/model, the issue at hand and what you have tried to resolve the issue. If it appears to need drivers, you should be able to find them on the net at any one of the driver sites. You may have to register (no cost) to enter a site and gain access to the driver files. One site I use is: http://www.driverguide.com/ -- Brian A. Sesko { MS MVP_Windows Desktop User Experience } Conflicts start where information lacks. http://basconotw.mvps.org/ Suggested posting do's/don'ts: http://dts-l.com/goodpost.htm How to ask a question: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375

One site I use is: http://www.driverguide.com/ Sorry, I should have tried burning something to begin with. Try burning and it worked. Signed up on that site, but I couldn't find a driver for my HP CD-Writer CD16r. I apologize for unnecessarily posting without trying. I guess I'm a paranoid user.
