mickwitt Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 hey everyone, i recently inherated an oldish office pc, its 3.2ghz but seems to take forever to load up and when it does it seems very slow, memory doesnt seem to be an issue but when i first switch it on im given the choice of 2 windows xp to boot, im about to change the boot.ini file but i dont think this is the culprit. any ideas? also if i totally start from scratch with it will i have to have all the drivers for everything ie wifi card, dvd drive etc Quote
Bluesplayer. Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Hi and welcome. Last question first - before a reinstall, locate the drivers that you will need for a reinstall - Video, Sound, Ethernet drivers etc and copy [burn] them to a Cd - USB stick. 2 windows Xp listed at startup - there is a safer way to remove one entry, other than using the boot.ini file. We can come back to that. Let us know what is listed at start up in msconfig - click on start up tab. But with that said - if you have the original Xp install Cd - I'd do a clean install of Win Xp.
