Guest graham Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Hi When I download a .exe file from net it wont write to desktop, i get message :\Documents and Settings\graham\Desktop\bbo_setup.exe could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location. I tried changing the properties of the folder in my computer and explorer to delete the read only tag box and apply. When I look again it has been re enabled Hope someone can help Graham

I download everything to a folder in My Documents, so that it will get backed up the next time I save My Documents (something I do more frequently than backing up my whole C: partition). A lot of those downloads are things I just paid good money for, so I want fast protection for them against various kinds of loss.
Guest Doug W. Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Re: cannot write to desktop Graham: When you download, almost every program that I have used for this has provision for selecting which folder to use for the download destination. Watch for it. If you are unable to determine this, get an experienced user to show you how. That is the best that I can do but maybe others can explain it better than that. - "graham" <graham@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:AF6D4B68-168B-49FA-BF1E-9554EAF4CA81@microsoft.com... > Hi Doug > How do I direct dowloads to it pls > > "Doug W." wrote: > >> Open your C drive and create a new folder and name it My >> Download Files and direct your downloads to it. >> - >> "graham" <graham@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:0CB821E1-ECB2-4DA3-97D6-03F10EC42181@microsoft.com... >> > Hi >> > When I download a .exe file from net it wont write to >> > desktop, >> > i get message >> > >> > :\Documents and Settings\graham\Desktop\bbo_setup.exe could >> > not be saved, >> > because you cannot change the contents of that folder. >> > Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving >> > in a >> > different >> > location. >> > >> > I tried changing the properties of the folder in my >> > computer >> > and explorer >> > to delete the read only tag box and apply. Guest Elmo Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Re: cannot write to desktop graham wrote: > Hi Doug > How do I direct downloads to it pls? right-click the link, or Shift/right-click and hopefully there will be an option to Save or Save As. If not, there may be an option in the browser options as to where downloaded files are saved. -- Joe =o)
