sinisterial88 Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Hello, Recently my pc has had some problems powering up, it stays on just fine, PSU is working just fine, everything smoothly, except! when the pc is shutted down completely for longer than a minute or so, It has problems starting up. Pressing the power button does nothing, no fans no sounds, but what makes this really weird, is that after a minute or two from stopping to press the power button, the pc powers up itself. like magic, I've been thinking it might be the power button going bad, but since it still is able to boot, tho in this very weird kind of way, what could be the cause of it? KenB Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS Pressing the power button does nothing When you press the Power Button - does it actually depress ( go in ) ? This does sound like a PSU issue. They are complex and it is not just a case of it is on or off. after a minute or two from stopping to press the power button, the pc powers up itself. like magic Are you sure your PC isn't haunted ? :) I don't suppose you have another redundant PC that you could take the PSU out of to try have you ? sinisterial88 Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 I currently dont have another pc to test the psu. i could take it with me when i visit my parents. Yes the button actually does press, the light on the psu is always on. Apart from that my pc like said works just fine, im just too scared to shut it down now since this happened twice already XD. but at both times the pc started shortly after pressing the power button (about 30seconds-1minute), but never directly as it should and that is what makes this really weird, never seen anything like this before so i dont know what to expect to be the fault. Lets hope its not haunted atleast xD :O Quote
KenB Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 If you have a voltmeter I can provide a link to a testing sequence. Alternatively you could take it to a good local tech ( NOT PC World) but ask beforehand how much it is going to cost. If the system is running ok - but only plays up on initial booting it does sound like a PSU problem.
