nightslicer Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 hi guys, i have a problem which i solved my self but it happens quite frequently so i would like to stop it. the problem is that whenever i restart my computer or leave it idle for a while, my internet doesnt connect, its wired to my modem. a yellow exclamation mark appears near the 'network connections' icon. i disable it and enable it to get it working again but i want it to stop doing that. can anyone help? thanks Quote
KenB Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Try changing the channel frequency that the router is broadcasting at. I assume that it is a router and not an old modem ? Make and model would be good :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
nightslicer Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 its my computer lol, i have an ethernet cable going to my router i meant, sorry x.x + its a netgear.. im not sure what model, but its white and rectangular Quote
KenB Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Sorry - I missed the "wired" bit so changing the channel will have no effect. Start > type in .......devmgmt.msc .......ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters 1. What is listed ? 2. Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ? its a netgear The model number should be on the back or underneath the router. click here It will be something like WNR3500 If you can let me have this I may be able to find the manual for it if we need it. 3. Do you have any other computers that can connect using the router or is it just the one in the house? nightslicer Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 Intel® PRO/100 VE Network Connection - thats whats listed and the model of my router is - WGR614 6VGUKS - there are no x's or exclamation marks and my laptop does through wireless. however its hardly ever in use. thanks Quote
KenB Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Thanks for the extra details - we may need these later. Try the laptop with the ethernet cable to the router. (turn the wireless off - there should be a switch ) If there are no problems with this then the problem lies with the first pc. Plastic Nev Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Just in case it is needed, here is a link to the manual for that router. It is a PDF so Adobe reader or similar will be needed. http://kbserver.netgear.com/pdf/wgr614v6_ref_man_20Apr05.pdf Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Plastic Nev Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Hi, thanks for the update and hopefully all stays well, but we are still here if it doesn't. Sometimes these things happen and are corrected by other odd Microsoft Windows updates, or even updates to other software, usually without any one knowing what update or part thereof. Best of luck, Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. If Free PC Help has helped you then please consider a donation.
