Guest Will Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Is the SYSPREP utility supposed to not work on OEM versions of Windows? On a Windows 2003 Server Web Edition computer we accidentally used the same key on two installs. On the second install - not wanting to lose installed applications - we copied over the SYSPREP.EXE utility from the original install CD. When we try to run this and "reseal" the computer we get a message that the SYSPREP utility is incompatible with that Windows. It's unclear whether this message is because of the type of license (OEM) or because of the version of Windows (Web Edition). -- Will
Guest Darrell Gorter[MSFT] Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 RE: SYSPREP on OEM Versions of Windows Hello Will, Sysprep should work on the OEM editions as well as Web edition. However are you simply wanting to change the product key on the second installation? If so look for the wpa.bak and wpa.dbl files in the \windows\system32 folder. If you rename those files, you should be prompted for activation on the next reboot. The activation wizard would have an option to change the product key.
