Hi. I've got a hp Dv6-6b58sa which I've only had for 3 days. It is loaded with windows 7 home premium. I have been doing a lot of downloads which I think is what caused my problem. I cannot turn on the laptop. It says that I need to reinstall windows by running the installation disc. But, it didn't come with a disc? Does this mean I'm going to have to buy it separately?

Thanks.

Hello and welcome...

If you do not have recovery disks they can be ordered from HP....

Here is a list of recovery options from HP.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01895783#RestoreWithoutWindows

Scroll down to Restore the PC to its original condition using the f11 key

Fully power off the computer then power back on and press F11 key.....

In addition to Jelly Bean...

I've only had for 3 days

Once you get it working you can create recovery disks in case you need them again using the Recovery Manager. It should be in your Start>All programs list.

Also in addition to all the above, can you please describe everything that happens once you try to start it up, and what is the exact wording of the message you see, is it in white on a black screen for example as well.

I've only had for 3 days.

If this is a new machine it is still under warranty.

Downloading in itself, will not cause a system to suddenly fail.

It says that I need to reinstall windows

As Nev says - posts the error message.

Do you have any files / data on the drive that you would want to recover?

If you need to return the machine to the retailer - they may reinstall the Operating System and you will lose all data.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
