Guest Billys Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 When checking msconfig ,everything is checked. When I choose what I want, everthing is OK until I go back in everything is checked again. Why is this happening? How can I cure this problem?

Probably what's happening is that the programs are resetting themselves. Is one of them Quick Time, per chance? Or AIM? Alias

You may have a security program that disallows changes to the registry. Examples are Spybot Search & Destroy's TeaTimer, McAfee, Norton, Ad-aware Pro. You will need to see what you have installed on your computer and look at your security programs' configurations. Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic! Billys, After doing the MSCONFIG thing you must restart your PC and when you do that and it starts up the first thing you will be asked is if you want to continue to use this config and you should answer accordingly. Sounds like to me you are telling it "no I do not want to use this config" so it goes back to what it was before you restarted? Maybe......?

I think George probably identified what's going on, but ... realize this: msconfig is a trouble-shooting tool, NOT a way to permanently fix anything. You need to pursue the right way to use msconfig and what to do with that information. Just thought it should be mentioned. 6 months from now you might try to re-enable something msconfig has off, and wonder why you can't re-enable it.
Guest Kelly Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Re: msconfig If the programs in question have services attached - disable them as well. To do that under msconfig - go to the Services Tab and check off hide ms services and/or start/run: services.msc Others that remain can be removed from the run keys via the registry - Local Machine and Current User..... Added info - to clear out old refrences via the startup tab, see line 148 (right hand side): http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm -- All the Best, Kelly (MS-MVP/DTS&XP) Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm SupportSpace http://www.supportspace.com/pages?aiu=kellyskorner "Billys" <Billys@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6293ACD1-C2F8-4FEC-B07A-6491056CD590@microsoft.com... > When checking msconfig ,everything is checked. Are you trying to disable your anti-virus/anti-spyware/firewall application (e.g., Norton Internet Security) via MSCONFIG?
