PSU getting too hot.

I recently bought a new graphics card (GeForce GTX 550 Ti) and so I had to upgrade my PSU to a new 400W one. Now when ever I play graphic demanding games such as Skyrim, Fable 3, Gothic 4 the PSU gets very loud and very hot, blowing very hot air out the back. I'm a bit worried this may cause damage to my computer in the long run so would it be best to get a new 500W PSU with a better, bigger fan, the fan in my current new one is very small and doesn't seem to have much air flow, its in the middle of it not near the edge of the case, may this be the problem.

Any help/feedback is much appreciated.

What make and model is your PSU...?

 

As the GPU needs a minimum of 400 watts PSU I would of certainly gone for at least a 500 watt.

 

PSU do get very hot.

 

How many internal fans do you have and are they all working?

Hi and thank you for the swift reply.

 

I have two internal fans and they work perfectly and are dust free as I clean the inside regularly.

 

The PSU is a JeanTech atx 400W sorry if that's not the info your after, that's all I see written on the box.

 

I was thinking I should have gone for the 500W one, I may buy a new 500W one but the ones I see all have the fans facing upwards against the top of the case which I presume would make it hot and hinder the air coming out of the case, would that not be bad.

JeanTech in my personal opinion are PCWorld cheap rubbish that realy are not worth the few pounds you spend on them.

Take the PSU back and buy yourself a decent PSU like Corsair or OCZ....

 

I always say the PSU is the heart of the computer if it fails/overheats it can cause more damage than just a dead PSU....

 

Your running a dual core CPU it deserves a better branded PSU,your issue is JeanTech PSU,it will run hot and eventualy fail....

Don't worry it doesn't offend me, I thought as much about it after it started over heating.

 

Would getting a new PSU definitely solve the problem or do I need another fan inside.

 

I really do need to get one now but I just don't have the funds to buy any of the one's you recommend, would this be sufficient for the short term

If the PSU fan gets noisier now when it is new - what is it going to be like in a few months ?

This PSU is not coping very well with the system requirements - in my opinion.

Your new Video Card will produce heat when under load.

 

You could run speccy to see what the temperatures inside the case are: ( do this under load )
