Guest Super Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I have used VMWare and am now trying to use the hyperv feater in 2008. All my VMs seem very slow in Hyperv. It takes over an hour just to install, even just an XP system. After install and after the integration services are installed, they are still slow. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks

Guest Super Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Re: Server 2008 Hyper-V This is on a Dell Precision 690, 2 CPUs and 4 gigs of ram. The hard drives are in a raid 0. It is a decent system for running one VM at a time on server 2008 "Meinolf Weber" <meiweb(nospam)@gmx.de> wrote in message news:ff16fb6654848cad698490966e9@msnews.microsoft.com... > Hello Super, > > What hardware are you using? Guest George Yin Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Re: Server 2008 Hyper-V Hello, Would you please take a look at the following articles, and then use the performance counters to see what is causing the performance issue? CPU, memory, disk or network? Try the relevant counters for both parent and child partitions. http://blogs.msdn.com/tvoellm/archive/2008/05/04/hyper-v-performance-counter s-part-one-of-many.aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/tvoellm/archive/2008/05/09/hyper-v-performance-counter s-part-two-of-many-hyper-v-hypervisor-counter-set.aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/tvoellm/archive/2008/05/09/hyper-v-performance-counter s-part-three-of-many-hyper-v-logical-processors-counter-set.aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/tvoellm/archive/2008/05/12/hyper-v-performance-counter s-part-four-of-many-hyper-v-hypervisor-virtual-processor-and-hyper-v-hypervi sor-root-virtual-processor-counter-set.aspx Also check the Event Viewer, especially located at the sections under "Applications and Services Logs\Microsoft\Windows" starting with words "Hyper-V-", to see if any errors or warnings exist there. A very common cause to this problem is that some hardware devices or device drivers are not compatible with Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. Even though you can run these devices well, but any incompatible devices or drivers may cause potential problems. We do have seen some similar performance issues and some of them can be fixed after just updating the drivers. And if this is the case, it is really hard to say why they would cause this problem. So, if possible, please contact Dell to see if the computer can support Windows Server 2008, and if all the device drivers are officially signed (this is a limitation of 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008). Just for your reference, I am sorry to say that I haven't found this model in the Windows Server Catalog, which we usually use to check if the special device has been tested under Windows Server 2008: http://www.windowsservercatalog.com/ Besides, if you have any further questions relating to Hyper-V, I would highly suggest that you post in our Hyper-V forum. That is special for Hyper-V and people there have better knowledge on this. They may also share some useful information with you. http://forums.technet.microsoft.com/en-US/winserverhyperv/threads/ Sincerely, George Yin Microsoft Online Support Microsoft Global Technical Support Center Get Secure! - http://www.microsoft.com/security ===================================================== When responding to posts, please "Reply to Group" via your newsreader so that others may learn and benefit from your issue. ===================================================== This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
