Guest Russ M Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 When rebooting I get a window titled PROGRAMS that pops up. I have stopped all loading programs, one at a time, but it still comes up. It would be nice to know where it is coming from and how to stop it.
Guest Bob I Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Re: PROGRAMS popup on startup Is there something in the Startup folder in Start, Programs? Or perhaps you may look in MSCONFIG to see if there is a "broken" entry for an program that is trying to start but is missing the quote marks to make it a proper command. Guest cemal Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 RE: PROGRAMS popup on startup Check this node, [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce] AND RUN NODE. Guest Russ M Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Re: PROGRAMS popup on startup I did see a couple lines that do not have quotations but how do I correct them, assuming they need correction? Guest JS Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Re: PROGRAMS popup on startup If you want to dig deeper: Try Autoruns from the MS Windows SysInternals site: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx AutoRuns will show/list all apps/etc. that load/run when you first boot ... (the 'Boot Execute' tab), when you logon (the 'Logon' tab) and other programs that load (grouped by labeled tabs) for easy viewing. It also provides the ability to selectively allows you to stop (use with care) any program that you don't want to load. You can undo any changes you have made. Note: To get additional details on an item in the list you can't readily identify you may need to highlight the item (right click) and use the 'Search Online' option to get the details, especially useful for the more obscure items in the list. Guest Kelly Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Re: PROGRAMS popup on startup Click Start, Run and enter MSCONFIG Go to the Startup tab. Locate any entry that has a long file or path name (has spaces in it). Ensure that these entries have quotes before and after the entry. Note the location of the entry as well. If its in the Registry, you'll need to manually edit the associated Registry entry to correct this. If its loading from a start menu shortcut, you'll have to change the shortcut's properties. -- All the Best, Kelly (MS-MVP/DTS&XP) Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm SupportSpace http://www.supportspace.com/pages?aiu=kellyskorner "Russ M" <RussM@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:394D0F14-DC31-43F9-ACA0-FC6981E82349@microsoft.com... > When rebooting I get a window titled PROGRAMS that pops up.
