Guest Ditto007 Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I would like to know if I need Service Pack 3. My computer is used only for personal use at home.

That said, SP3 is not considered 'critical' by most people I know, so you could probably avoid it and not notice much difference (SP2, on the other hand, was HUGE.). Run Microsoft Update and get everything else, at the very least. And before you install any SP you should back up your data just in case something goes wrong.

I was hesitant about SP3 but when it showed up on Windows Update, I let the install proceed (the only thing I did was turn off the anti-virus software) and it worked without a hitch. I notice no difference in performance or operation but at least I'm current (as current as one can get with XP).
