Guest meamjw Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 -- meamjw I am using XP Home/SP3 and it had been running well until about a week ago when I was trying to set up a LAN and hooked up an Iogear KVM. The next time I tried to boot it got to the end of the PCI devices section and presented me with the "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" I have since found I can get it to boot with an emergency floppy and everything works fine after that. In fact I have just been leaving the floppy inserted and have no problems. I just want to fix it so it boots like it's supposed to and have tried many things that have not helped one bit: 1. ran the most complete check disk=no errors. Ran a disk diagnostic from Seagate/Maxtor=no problems. 2. replaced the CMOS battery. 3. Unhooked power and IDE cables, then re-connected. 4. re-arranged start order in BIOS. I cannot get into safe boot because the boot process isn't getting that far. I have no Windows CD because it came OEM. I do have restore CDs but don't believe I can get Recovery Console from them. I'm afraid to even try them for fear they may just reformat without giving me the option to say no. I'm not even considering a reformat and re-install because I've gone through two weeks of trying to get everything back as it was as nearly as possible and as I said, I can boot and operate normally from the floppy. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate hearing them.
