Windows Media Player 11 stopped playing DVDs

I just did a clean Windows XP Home install last week. To get the

proper codecs I installed interVideo Home Theater, then WMP 11 played

movies just fine. Since then I have installed Nero 8, DVD Fab 5 and

Real Player 10 plus. Now WMP 11 won't play an original movie, but it

will play a move that has been copied. Home Theater (from interVideo)

will play either DVD, so that tells me that there is something wrong

with WMP 11. I took Microsoft's suggestion and upgraded the video

driver, still no play. I like WMP 11, but would like it more if it

played (original) DVDs again. Since I know it played with the codecs

installed with interVideo, I don't need to chance loading more codecs.

Please help.

I know you said you don't want to install any more codecs, but I highly

recommend the K-Lite codec pack (full).

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm

I used it to solve a problem with WMP also (albeit not the same problem

you're having). So use it at your own discretion.

Re: Windows Media Player 11 stopped playing DVDs

Thanks Dan. I'd rather use interVideo Home Theater than WMP11 and

risk loading more codecs. Is it possible that a codec would be

required for WMP11 but not Home Theater? WMP is an integral part of

Windows (why did Microsoft do this again with an application?) and I'm

thinking the issue may be between these two inseparable "systems."

Re: Windows Media Player 11 stopped playing DVDs

I was using PowerDVD and it played DVDs fine, but WMP wouldn't play sound on

them. I used K-LITE and now they BOTH play movies. I don't know why that

happens though. Again, that's just my experience.
