Nope. Your registry cleaner, for instance, is counterproductive.

Get rid of the Doctor and the Registry Cleaner. Use Spy Bot, Search and

Destroy, Spywareblaster and Spywareguard. You can easily search Google

for the urls.

Windows Defenseless is just that, defenseless. Next you're going to be

saying that the OP should use Microsoft's registry cleaner in One Care?

You need one good antivirus product. AVG is OK as such things go.

For malware you need an arsenal of scanners sometimtes.

The reigstry cleaner has nothing to do with seciruty; not needed.

Add Adaware, spyware Search & Destroy, keep windows defender, add

spyware guard should be a pretty decent setup IMO.

Each has their own strengths and weaknesses; no single one yet has a

corner on that ability.

Update each and everyone one of them periodically and before use.

Well, you most definitely don't need any sort of registry cleaner,

I don't think so! It is not unusual that in Multi National

Organizations such as MSFT the Section Heads of the Commercial Department

and the Program Engineers (Operating Department), are having conflicting

opinions as they work for different goals.

The Program Engineers are the pragmatic type, they develop things, they

*know* things. They have to demonstrate high integrity in order to produce

high quality software.

The Advertising People know how to *sell and push* things. They mostly walk

on a fine line but cross it frequently for the sake of the $ almighty and

in the name of the share holders. The nature of their job prevents them to

be moral and ethical.

The goals of the Commercial Dept. are not necessarily in the best interest

for the end user.

Would MSFT recommend the use of registry cleaners if Mark Russinovich

and/or Ed Bott had a say? HELL NO!

Would MSFT recommend the use of PFW if Jesper M. Johansson and/or Steve

Riley had a say? HELL NO!

Would MSFT have included (lame) additions to their Windows Life OneCare

(AV) application if their program engineers had a say? HELL NO!

Umm, in addition to would be OK, but to replace them would be folly. NO

APP can or will cover all the bases. And One Care's reputation isn't

all that solid either. Personally I wouldn't even (an ddon't) bother

Well, windows defender isn't that powerful, I agree. But it's reailable

and works first time every time, something you can't say about One Care.

I have had it save the day though on come client's machines and I like

what it does. As long as something can't hurt, and is designed to do

good, it's worth having.

I don't care for One Care period so in my case it's not an issue.

Max Registry Cleaner I agree with.

I have to agree with whoever said you presume too much: You do. I

think you need to step back a bit and take a better look at the reaility

of these things and learn more about what they do. The list I use is

nowhere near the only list in existance, some are probably better too,

but for my use, they seem to support me well. I find little wrong with

other's lists of malware arsenals, in fact, and occasionally even check

out what they use/recommend. But in your case you aren't recommending:

Instead you're presenting your opinion as the only valid one and that's

clearly not the case.

Not true, but, IF you use a registry "cleaner", you need one that is

reliable and capable of reversing its changes. I've never had to

reverse a change, but I can see it being possible. Stick with the

mainstream and you'll be OK.

The downside of good registry cleaners is that they are expected to

fix all ills and that's just not the case. Often the registry has

nothing to do with the problem's symptoms, whatever they may be.

Why some have such closed minds about them I can't fathom and they

refuse to expand on it at all. What feeble reasons they have given in

the long ago past were never relevant to the situatiosn at hand even.

In the right situation, they can be system savers. I've never seen a

registry cleaner, mainstream or not, crash a system although I'm certain

it's possible. But so can the installation of most any application;

it's all related.

Sorry, but you're wrong. But that's nothing new.
