Guest doowopper10 Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 1) Is it a good idea to delete old restore dates from System Restore? I have some listed there that are so old I will never use them to restore my computer. 2) If so, how do I do it? Thanks. Richard
Guest JS Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Re: Deleting old dates from System Restore Use the "System Restore Settings", in the 'Drive Settings' box choose the drive letter (usually C:) and then click the 'Settings' button and then move the slider to the left to reduce the amount of disk space System Restore will use. System Restore will only store a certain fixed amount of restore dates.

Remove Restore Points To remove all restore points except the most recent restore point, follow these steps: 1.Click Start, and then click My Computer. 2.Right-click the disk in which you want to free up space, and then click Properties. 3.Click the General tab, and then click Disk Cleanup. 4.Click the More Options tab, and then under System Restore, click Clean up. 5.Click Yes to remove all but the most recent restore point. 6.Click OK, click Yes to proceed with this action, and then click OK.

By default, SR makes a restore point about every 24 hours if the computer is on. It will keep as many restore points as the allocated space will permit. When the allocated space fills up, SR automatically deletes the oldest restore points to make room for new ones. By default, the space allocated for SR points is 12% of the partition size. If you have a large drive with a single partition, as is most common, you probably have too much space allocated. Right click on "My Computer", select Properties, and then select the System Restore tab. Select the system drive (usually C:\) and click Settings. Move the slider to the left until the allocated space is approximately 1 GB. If other partitions are listed under "Available drives", turn off SR for those other partitions. -- Lem -- MS-MVP To the moon and back with 2K words of RAM and 36K words of ROM. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_Guidance_Computer http://history.nasa.gov/afj/compessay.htm

You cannot selectively remove them but you can get rid of the oldest by making their storage area smaller. I see other posts indicating how to do that. HTH
