Restoring to a Restore Point using the Command Prompt

I can't logon to my user account so I'm using KB304449 to try to restore the

system to an earlier point.

I can get to the command prompt but if I then type the command :

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

I get the message command unrecognised.

If I go to the C:\windows\system32\restore and then type rstrui.exe I still

get the same message.

Can SKS tell me what I might need to do to get the rstrui.exe file running

/or/ a different way to set the restore point

Tx

Instead of typing

C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

you should type

dir C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

so that you can see if the file exists. If it does not exist then you must

restore it from your WinXP CD.

likely the file is corrupt. Try reinstalling following this advice

http://bertk.mvps.org/html/reinstall.html

Re: Restoring to a Restore Point using the Command Prompt

I should have made my first post a bit clearer - the rstrui.exee file does

exist.

Yes, this would have made things much clearer. I also have my serious doubts

whether you actually saw a message "command unrecognised". Please quote all

error messages verbatim - it makes a big difference!
