My pc with Windows XP is having a problem putting things on USB hard drive.

I have tried to put Files (like My Docs) to USB hard drive. There are

indications it's doing that. However, the files in USB drive don't open

with any content. Won't let me delete them, either. Get an error message

which says there are files in the directories.

Now, I have one of the low priced USB port things I bought off Ebay and put

in. Could be something wrong there.

What does this sound like?

Are you sure it is not a bogus drive, formatted so it appears to have more

space than it really does?

Let's take this one step at a time. Try this:

1. Plug in the USB disk.

2. Click Start / Run / diskmgmt.msc{OK}

3. Is the USB disk visible?

4. On the left-hand side, at the bottom, you have a picture for each disk.

What exactly does it report about your USB disk?

5. When you click the picture for the USB disk then you get a highlight in

the upper part of the window. What are the details you see there in the

various columns (Layout, Type, File System etc)?
