turning off all unnecessary programs ....

Is there a list of only the basic files need on startup? How do I turn off

those I don't need so they don't interfere with what i am working on in XP?

Re: turning off all unnecessary programs ....

 

XP needs nothing running to boot. Go to Start/Run: msconfig

 

Disable as you wish. Also, while there go to the Services tab, check off

hide all ms services and see what is left. All listed there was not

installed natively by XP.

That can be done, and some of them are a good idea to turn off, but ...

what makes you think you need to do so? What problems are you

encountering? Normally they aren't going to interfere with anything

you're "working on" in XP. It almost sounds like you're shotgunning for

a fix rather than figuring the actual reasons for whatever your

problem/s is/are.
