Guest Colon Terminus Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 I've searched Google Groups and this newsgroup and can't find the answer to what should be a very simple problem. In my home network, when I view My Network Places, I see every available share on all computers on the network. I don't want to see all the shares available, I only want to see the computers on the network as I do in Windows 2000 and Vista. How can I change this behaviour? -- Posted via NewsDemon.com - Premium Uncensored Newsgroup Service ------->>>>>>http://www.NewsDemon.com<<<<<<------ Unlimited Access, Anonymous Accounts, Uncensored Broadband Access

Guest Kelly Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Re: Icons in "My Network Places" See if this applies to your need: "You simply append a dollar sign ($) to the resource's share name. When you do, the shared resource won't appear on the network. Furthermore, any access restrictions or passwords assigned to that shared resource remain in effect." http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-5034916.html -- All the Best, Kelly (MS-MVP/DTS&XP) Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm SupportSpace http://www.supportspace.com/pages?aiu=kellyskorner "Colon Terminus" <colon_terminus@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:48b8366b$0$13081$b9f67a60@news.newsdemon.com... > > I've searched Google Groups and this newsgroup and can't find the answer > to what should be a very simple problem. > > In my home network, when I view My Network Places, I see every available > share on all computers on the network. Unfortunately, I guess it isn't that simple -or- it IS that simple ... Windows XP just won't behave and can't be made to behave the way we're (my family) is accustomed to. There are 8 computers on our home network, each sharing the majority of their resources on the network. When any family member double-clicks on "My Network Places" they're presented with a window populated by over fifty icons. Ridiculous; even more so when there are one or more laptops connecterd. The problem was solved by double-clicking "My Network Places", double-clicking "Entire Network", double-clicking "Mucrosoft Windows Network" and then dragging a shortcut to our home network to the desktop. When a family member then double-clicks that desktop shortcut, the result is what we're looking for. -- Posted via NewsDemon.com - Premium Uncensored Newsgroup Service ------->>>>>>http://www.NewsDemon.com<<<<<<------ Unlimited Access, Anonymous Accounts, Uncensored Broadband Access
