Guest RJK Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 2nd PC - Asrock AliveNF6G|dual core x6000|2x512PC2-5300 XP Home boot hd SATA 80gb ...C:\ ....and a IDE 80gb on IDE0 for storage, and Ghost backups. ...D:\ 1536mb pagefile was on the default size and located boot drive C:\ An hour ago I set 128mb fixed swapfile on C:\ and a 1404mb fixed swapfile on D:\ ....and set Perfectdisk to offline defrag meta and paging file/s, on those two drives on reboot - and rebooted. It whistled through C:\ in no time at all, and has gone into slow motion for the offline defrag of drive D:\ cuurently at 34% and looks like it's going to take the all the rest of the afternoon. D:\ was not heavily fragmented and has over 50gb empty space - there are two or three Ghost backup folders on there, each about 4gb in size and each is a "spanned" backup in 1gb chunks. ....any idea as to why it's taking so long to shunt things around on that drive ? i.e. it never used to take this long ! regards, Richard
