Guest JoJo Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I see the pointer frozen in the middle of the display but no mouse activity and weirder yet is no sign of any mouse installed and no mouse drivers can be seen in Device Manager. Scary. Opinions on what to do next? I do have really old IntelliPoint 1.1 on floppy disk and a CD to boot from.

System restore point , then lookup why SP3 failed Clark... -- Don't you have Google in your part of the world?

My Intellitype Pro Keyboard 2.1 driver would not work with Vista and it wasn't easy to find a substitute driver. Maybe booting into Safe Mode will let you use the mouse to do some of the steps outlined below. I think Safe Mode uses the generic driver yet. You may have to delete registry keys to uninstall the driver, then reinstall. Possibly, your mouse has passed from legacy to historical. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321122 If you connect a Microsoft Plug and Play Serial Mouse, a Microsoft EasyBall, or a Microsoft IntelliMouse pointing device to the computer, the device may not be detected by Microsoft Windows. When you run the Add New Hardware Wizard, the issue is not resolved. CAUSE This issue may occur if files from a previous installation of a pointing device are still on the computer.

Guest JoJo Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Re: XP Pro SP3 took out Mouse and driver from Device Manager The effort to restore a mouse took all day. I can't use my KVM switchbox anymore but I have a mouse. Nothing I did could restore my use of th KVM switch that I tested piece at a time cable by cable with other working equipment. SP3 also destroyed that for me too. Guest Frank-FL Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Re: XP Pro SP3 took out Mouse and driver from Device Manager I can't help myself. This has to be said. SP3 did not destroy anything. You have outdated drivers and probably some mismatched hardware. I haven't installed a mouse driver since amouse for MSDOS.
