Aldaz108 Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Hi I made a post about this before but something new started happening I download star trek online and when I was on it the fans started going fast which is normal but then is sounded like the fan was either hitting something or something to do with the power supply or grahpic card. I have a GTX 560 not ti Power supply what I think it 500 or 700 watts think its 700 now. I got it back from GHI computers when my power supply popped but is it going to pop again? is it a bad graphics card? Quote
Vr5fx Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Shut down your computer and take everything out except the main power lead. while turned off you can take one side off your computer and you should be able to see what Watt your power supply is running at. Also, while your are checking, see for yourself if there is anything blocking the fans, as an example dust build-up or even a cable making contact with a fan. Do you know which fan makes the noise? You can also download Speccy from here http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download (The Admins share this program). This program will let you know what your system temperatures are running at. While playing a game (under load) record the given temps on the "summary" screen and post them here. More information about your system might also help. Perhaps another better informed member can shed more light. :) Quote AMD FX 6100 @ 3.9Ghz / Asus M5A99X EVO 990X / G-Skill 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX / Zotac GeForce GTX 660 Ti / Corsair TX 750W V2 PSU / Antec Kuhler 620 / Win7 64 / NZXT Tempest 410 Elite / NZXT 6 channel fan controller / Kingston 240GB HyperX 3K SSD / 1TB HDD Intel Pentium G2020 2.90GHz / Gigabyte GA-Z77N-WIFI / Kingston 4GB DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Genesis / Corsair 430W CXM / Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Case / 2TB WD Greenhttp://steamsignature.com/status/default/76561197986113115.png
Aldaz108 Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 the GFX card temp is around 77C on game idle around 40C CPU on game is around 50C idle 40C motherboard around 40C on game 32 idle by the way I cant take a computer apart am only 14 and my farther knows nothing about computers also do you think its safe when on games? and also again I think the PSU is 700 watt or 500 Quote
Vr5fx Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 77c for a graphics card under load is okay, above 80 would be a concern (in my opinion). Are you able to narrow down to which fan makes the noise? Just from looking on a search engine, the minimum Watt for a GTX 560 is a 500W, recommended 600W+ As for not being able to take your PC apart, not to worry, anyone will help as much as possible. KenB Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Aldaz108 Please stay with the original topic. If you ask a range of different questions in the same thread it gets confusing. Feel free to ask other questions but keep it to one question - one thread ( unless they are related of course :) ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Aldaz108 Posted February 12, 2012 Author Posted February 12, 2012 (edited) Computer fan noises sounds like a mini jet Hi My CPU fan I think sounds like a Jet engine trying to take off! I used speccy to see what the temp was it said around 50'C when in a game and around 30 and 40 when idle is this normal? sometimes it sounds like my fan is going to fall of from the cpu. and also sometimes it sounds like it hitting of scraping against something? should I clean it with a compressed air? should I see if a wire is in the way? another think do you think getting a fan control program is a good idea or a bad one? p.s sorry for making another post as I did not get a reply from the others when I asked my specs GTX 560 AMD Atholon ii x4 620 prompus 8gig 64bit windows 7 not sure what wattage I have think its a 700 or 600 watt supply Edited February 12, 2012 by Aldaz108 Quote
KenB Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Hi, I have merged your post to the original thread as it is obviously relevant. Sorry that you didn't get a response to your earlier posts. around 50'C when in a game and around 30 and 40 when idle These temps are absolutely fine. should I clean it with a compressed air? This is a good idea. Use short bursts as the propellant can produce liquid deposits if the spray is used for prolonged periods. should I see if a wire is in the way? If it sounds as if it his hitting something as you say - then take a look. This is entirely possible. A fan control program will not make the fan any quieter. Plastic Nev Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Hi, considering you have a little doubt about taking the computer apart, one thing I am not sure about is permissions to do so. Also I assume this computer is a desktop and not a laptop from the description so far. Ask your dad if he will OK all I say below. With your parents permission, here is a golden rule for opening a desktop case, and means to do so safely. First turn off the computer by the usual start and shut down button, once fully shut down, turn off the power at the plug socket. If that does not have a switch as some older sockets do not, pull the plug out. (the golden rule) You may have to remove keyboard, mouse, and monitor cables plus any other cables that could be pulled and perhaps damaged. Next lie the case down with the removable cover upwards. There will be one or two screws at the back of the case that hold the cover in place, remove those screws, then slide the cover backwards towards the back of the case, then lift off the cover. Have a good look round inside and before touching anything inside, put one hand on the edge of the case, this helps to make sure there is no chance of static electricity causing damage. If any wires or other things look to be close or likely to be touching any of the fans, move them out of the way. Also using a compressed air can, and a soft bristled (Not Nylon) brush, loosen and blow away any dust you see around the fans or the fins of heatsinks. Check for worn fans by lightly holding the fan blade and feel if there is any sideways movement, slight up and down movement is OK, but not sideways. (worn fan bearings can be the cause of excess noise) Also while the cover is off, you should be able to get a better look at the label on the power supply, if indeed the label is on the inside of the computer case. (Some makes the label can be seen from outside the computer case) If satisfied all seems in order, replace the cover and screws, then stand the case upright again, reconnect any cables that had to be removed, and power it back up. Please let us know if you find anything untoward such as either wires needing moving, or the mentioned signs of fan bearing wear. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems?
