Guest al Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I have the antivirus xp 2008. One microsoft discussion group suggested that one easy way of getting rid of this monster is to go to system tools and create a new system restore point and then restore the system. I tried to do this but the only highlited system restore date for the month of august was today's day at a time after my computer became infected. Is it possible to set another resore point even though no other dates in august are highlited. This virus is reaking disaster on my computer. Thanks in advance/ Al -- al

Either you misunderstood or the information was way off the mark. Here is the proper way to remove Antivirus XP 2008: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-removal/remove-antivirus-xp-2008 Once your PC is clean, turn off System Restore, then turn it on again (to clear out your old restore points).

As it turned out, it was easier to do a clean install. I had run Spybot, Ad-Aware and Spysweeper and none of these prevented nor removed "Anivirus XP 2008."
