If it is asking you to start in Safe Mode then do so and then change the

boot.ini options back. In safe mode click the start button then click Run.

In the run dialogue box type 'msconfig' (without the quotes) and press OK.

When msconfig window opens, click the Boot tab and remove the 'tick' mark

next to the 'safe mode' option and then click OK. Now restart your PC and

you should be back to normal.

All you really have to do is trace your steps backward whatever you did when

you edited the boot.ini file just go back in safe mode and undo it.

Wait. Wait, then wait some more. Safe mode does not load a lot of the drivers

that allow your system to run fast. As a result, Safe Mode tends to boot much

slower than normal mode. I have seen Windows booting into Safe Mode take so long

that I figured it had hung, but it turned out that it was not, and just needed

more patience.

Next time you try to boot into safe mode and think that it has hung, look at the

hard-drive light (the red one). Is it on or blinking? If it is not on, then

Windows has hung, if it is on, then Windows is processing and you just need to

wait for Safe Mode to start up.

Re: boot.ini

You click on safe mode and then you should see the screen scroll quickly as

various drivers are loaded. If you can see this safe mode is loading.

However, I have to agree with Alec safe mode doesn't load particularly fast

so give it some time. If it is going to hang it usually does so when loading

drivers and you will see the list of drivers scrolling up the screen, so if

it crashes (hangs) it will stop at at particular driver that it cannot load.

If you still can't access safe mode then you might consider a 'repair

install' (see this link from my website:

http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how_do_i_repair_my_windows_xp_in.htm )

This, of course, is assuming you have a full copy of the XP CD. If you only

have a manufacturer's recovery disc then you may have to resort to a

complete install, in which case you will loose all your data, so I hope you

have backups of all your important data?

Re: boot.ini

Once i turn computer on manually it shows me options to select safe mode/safe

mode with command prompt/last saved good configuration. If i select either

one it loads all drivers and hangs at mup.sys and then i get black blank

page. I left that way for more than 3 hours and nothing happened.

Unfortunately i didnt take backup of my valuable documents. Is there any way

I get copy of my doc in my disk.
