Tim77 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Hi, My house mate has recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 620. This comes with a good CPU however no graphics card. He is wanting to play games using this computer and we have looked into installing a graphics card, however come across several issues. Firstly it only has a 300 watt power supply which does not appear to have any connections in order to power a graphics card!!! Can someone please confirm if this is the case and how on earth you would power a graphics card using this system??? secondly if there is a way to power it, what is the most suitable card to purchase for this set up? thanks. KenB Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS Is this your machine? [click on Tech Specs ] click here If so - this says that there should be an AMD Radeon HD 6450 video card 300 Watt PSU - is yours the Mini-case ( not the slim one ) ? ===================== The AMD Radeon HD 6450 is a PCIe x 16 card - so even if it is not there your motherboard should have a PCIe slot. how on earth you would power a graphics card using this system??? Some Video Cards do not need additional power ( a 6 pin connector ) they take their power from the connections in the actual slot. secondly if there is a way to power it ..... If there isn't a PCIe 6 pin power connector from the PSU it is possible to get an adapter and convert a spare molex power connector. With 300Watts ( PSU ) your choice of Video Cards is limited. Please confirm that I have the right system linked. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
