Guest Still learning Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Ok...Dell tower, 512 megs, 1.7gzh processor..XP. I got some malware about 2 months ago...got Anti-spyware, and cleaned it up. But I've noticed since then I have *two* add/removes icons in the control panel. One looks normal, the other looks like a file looks when there is no association. But sometimes, even that icon will look normal, not often, but sometimes...and what's even weirder...is that both icons when clicked, will open up the add/remove program. I've noticed no other problems with the computer, and this is NOT really a problem for me, it's just that I know I'm not supposed to have two of them. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Guest Ron Badour Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Re: Control panel issue Do a find on: appwiz.cpl and see if you have two of them. If so, go to the file NOT located here: C:\WINDOWS\system32\appwiz.cpl and change .cpl to .bck. Now open and close the Control Panel several times to see if the Add Remove icon is correct. If it is, you can delete the file you changed the extension on. If there are not two files with the same name, do a find on: *.cpl and double click each one to see if one of them is producing the second A/R icon. If found, delete it. -- Regards Ron Badour MS MVP Windows Desktop Experience "Still learning" <notrealaddy@rukidding.com> wrote in message news:Oeqtw1JDJHA.3576@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Ok...Dell tower, 512 megs, 1.7gzh processor..XP.
