How to perform backup for XP?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to perform backup for XP?

For example, I would like to make a copy of the whole directory from

C:\Source to D:\Backup. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do it for

XP?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Re: How to perform backup for XP?

If you have XP Home version then you will have to manually install the

backup program as it is not installed by default on XP Home. You can install

NTBackup for XP Home by performing the following steps:

1.. Insert the XP Home CD-ROM.

2.. Navigate to the VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP folder.

3.. Double-click the ntbackup.msi file to install NTBackup.

However this version of Backup is very limited. It cannot backup to CD or

DVD devices and cannot create a full system recovery or ASR. You would do a

lot better to buy decent backup software. I use Acronis TrueImage from

http://www.acronis.com

Microsoft "Backup" is a disaster. When your system is hosed your

backup file may not be readable by other Windows O/S. Your best bet

is to open the two windows (one source and one target), highlight the

source directories and drag them to the target window directory. If

you want to do this regularly, create a DOS batch file, use the DOS

xcopy command, and then use the Scheduler to launch the backup at

night. It is better that your D: is another separate physical

drive, even better if it is removable drive. Make sure your target

has enough space and its a good idea to do a complete anti-virus scan

before the backup. Backups should be easy and automated.

Re: How to perform backup for XP?

NTBackup can be loaded from your Windows CD. But like I said, it is

lame.
