Guest Carlson Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I don't have enough money to buy a bigger hard-drive and I'm almost out of disk space, is there a way to delete/remove SP1 & SP2 and just use SP3? Can someone please explain the process to do this? Thank you.
Guest Rajiv K Khandelwal Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Re: Can I delete SP1 & SP2 and just use SP3 by itself? It depends which version of the installation do you have. I have the original XP and when I dd the installation, it required SP2 before SP3 could be installed. Hope this should answer your query. R. K. Thank you. There is the possibility of 4 different levels of XP install CDs: 1) XP (original) 2) XP with SP1 3) XP with SP2 4) XP with SP3 Rajiv was just replying that in order to install SP3, you must have at least SP1 installed prior to installing SP3. SP3 requires "some type" of security control in SP1 in order to correctly install.
Guest Ron Badour Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Re: Can I delete SP1 & SP2 and just use SP3 by itself? Have you tried XP's Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe)? Look in your Windows folder for files with names similar to this: $NtUninstallKB946648$ These are the uninstall files for updates that you have downloaded and installed. These files can take up a lot of room so if your machine is stable, these files can be deleted. MVP Doug Knox has a utility to remove the files plus the associated registry entries: http://www.dougknox.com/ In the left panel, select: Win XP Utilities. In the right panel, select: Remove Hotfix Backup Files. Once the files are gone, you will not be able to uninstall the updates; however, if the PC is stable, there should be no need to remove them. -- Regards Ron Badour MS MVP Windows Desktop Experience "Carlson" <Carlson@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:115886F8-6199-46D0-BC7A-9D154BB78DCB@microsoft.com... >I don't have enough money to buy a bigger hard-drive and I'm almost out of > disk space, is there a way to delete/remove SP1 & SP2 and just use SP3? > Can > someone please explain the process to do this? Thank you. You have XP SP3 which is the cumulative of all of the SP's.
