Guest JJ Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Problem Description: I recently purchased some new software and I need .net framework V2.0.50727 loaded on my computer in order to utilize the software. I currently have V1.1.4322 .net framework (think it loaded a long time ago to support MS Windows Messenger Live). I have installed the newer version of net and am then able to access the new software. However, it hoses up my MS Outlook (MS Office Sm Biz Edition 2003) meaning it will not open and it gives me an error message that says there is a problem with the Business Contacts Mgr - it goes through the diagnostics to fix it and then asks me if I want to open Outlook in Safe mode - when I select yes (or no) it loops me right back to the diagnostics to fix the biz contact issue. I am completely shut out of outlook as a result. I have tried the install and uninstall route 3 times now. Once I uninstall the .net V2 software - Outlook is immediately available. I need the newer version of .Net to run this new software and I also need to access my mail. What am I missing here and can anyone offer a solution? Thanks! -- Thoughts? Ideas? A Fix?

Guest JJ Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr Yes I have. Says my computer is up to date on all software (I also have the auto updates set up to run so I'm always up to date). -- Thoughts? Ideas? A Fix? Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr Do not bother installing KB913047, rather, install .NET Framework 2 Service Pack 1 (SP1), after reinstalling .NET Framework 2.0, as it " fixes the problems that are described in the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base " Source: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945757 KB913047 is included in SP1. Prior to reinstalling .NET 2, download SP1 and *save* it. Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr BTW, since Outlook requires .NET Framework 1.1, the issue is most likely related to that runtime and an improper installation of .NET Framework 2.0. That's what's probably causing the corruption in Outlook. Suggest, before you do what I've posted below, that you verify that .NET 1.1 is installed properly and has not been affected by the install of ..NET 2: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2008/03/03/8015158.aspx MowGreen [MVP] wrote: > Do not bother installing KB913047, rather, install .NET Framework 2 > Service Pack 1 (SP1), after reinstalling .NET Framework 2.0, as it > " fixes the problems that are described in the following articles in the > Microsoft Knowledge Base " > Source: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945757 > KB913047 is included in SP1. > > Prior to reinstalling .NET 2, download SP1 and *save* it. > > Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (x86) > http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=79bc3b77-e02c-4ad3-aacf-a7633f706ba5&DisplayLang=en > > > Close *all* open programs and browsers once all downloads complete. > > *** Make sure that Outlook is *not* running. *** > > Disconnect the system from the network/net; completely *disable* the > installed antivirus/security suite and any anti-malware programs that > actively monitor the system or, passively monitors the registry [Ex: > Spybot Search and Destroy]. Guest JJ Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr Hi and thanks for your suggestions. Here's what I did: 1. verified the 1.1 version was good - yes 2. Closed all unnecessary open programs 2. downloaded/saved V2 SP1 (did not run) 3. Closed all programs 4. Disabled virus/security system 5. Installed .net V2 6. Rebooted 7. Installed (ran) .net SP1 8. Rebooted 9. Reneabled Security 10. Opened outlook - same error/same issue 11. Went back to the.net install verification tool and ran it against the v2.0 stuff I just installed. 12. Guest JJ Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr Hi - Thanks again for your help. I followed your suggestions and deleted the available .tmp files as well as the .xml files. I was unable to locate a folder or file anywhere on my computer called IXPOOO.tmp - so not sure about the relevance of that. I also wasn't sure what to do with the files you listed that were relevant for .net bug fixws other than to acknowledge they were present in the temp directory (I did not open any of them to see if there were other files extensions that needed to be deleted - just looked like they were txt files so I left alone. I uninstalled the 2.0 and SP1 and re-installed based on previous instructions. I am still getting the install as failing in your verification tool as well as continuing to experience the same issues with outlook. Got any other ideas? Thanks for all your assistance. -- Thoughts? Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr You could not locate IXP000.tmp after showing hidden files, folders, and system files ? You have not mentioned doing that. How many and what is the total number and size of all the files in the Temp folder ? You did disable the installed security software prior to installing, correct ? Guest JJ Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr Thanks again for your response. Correct - I could not locate the ISPOOO.tmp file. Perhaps I haven't properly unhide the hidden files? I went into the Temp file properties and made sure the hidden box was unchecked. Is that correct? I have not cleaned the temp files again since the last uninstall. Here is what it says presently: 570 files, 48 folders, 716MB (751,363,694 bytes) Yes I did disable security before I installed and then reenabled it after the installs/rebooting. -- Thoughts? Ideas? Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr Please check this again so that you've done the steps to show hidden files, folders, and system files properly: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html#winxp The subfolder you need to locate in Temp is named IXP000.tmp, NOT ISP000.tmp. >> I have not cleaned the temp files again since the last uninstall. Here is >> what it says presently: 570 files, 48 folders, 716MB (751,363,694 bytes) That is a rather HUGE Temp folder. Suggest that's where the installation issue is stemming from. Will wait to give further steps until you post back to confirm if IXP000.tmp exists or not. Guest JJ Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr I have ensured all hidden files, folders, system files are properly displayed (not hidden). I also searched my hard drive for IXP*.tmp (just in case I was not reading whether the rest was alpha/numeric characters). Nothing. There simply is nothing anywhere on my computer that reflects that file. As an aside - before I read this last note from you. I uninstalled the software I purchased (that requires .net v2 to run) - just to see if that would make a difference. I also cleaned the .tmp & .xml files (weren't any of the later) from the temp directory (from previous instructions). What I thought I'd try is to follow the instructions to download the service pack, V2 (turning of security, rebooting, etc...) and see if I got a different result. I will wait to hear back from you - in case you have another approach to suggest. thanks. -- Thoughts? Ideas? A Fix? Guest MowGreen [MVP] Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr Let's see if this works, JJ. If you have an external Hard Drive, create a folder on it, name it Temp, move all of the contents of %temp% [your UserAccount Temp folder] to it for now. If not, create another folder in MyDocuments and name it Temp. Now open %temp% and move all of the contents to the newly created Temp folder in MyDocs for now. Back in the now empty %temp% folder, create a new folder and name it IXP000.TMP. [ those are zeros and not the letter O] Close the window. Manually downloaded another copy of Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (x86) and save it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=79bc3b77-e02c-4ad3-aacf-a7633f706ba5&DisplayLang=en Install it with the security software temporarily disabled. Guest JJ Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr Hi- Well all went correctly in following your instructions. I only installed the ..net v2 SP1 (after downloading it, turning off security and rebooting). Here are the results of the new temp directory creation (had to do it on HD as no external drive). Checked the *temp* file ane there is the IXP000.tmp folder that I created (empty) - however the following entries also exist outside the folder: uxeventlog.txt Synchronize (2009-09-09).log jusched.log dw.log dd_NET_Framework20_Setup0A58.txt dd_dotnetfx20install.txt dd_dotnetfx20error.txt dd_depcheck_NETFX20_EXP_35.txt ASPNETSetup_00000.log ~DF22B1.tmp ~DFA965.tmp ~DFA941.tmp The Outlook is still failing. do the above files offer any clues as to why? thanks - jj -- Thoughts? Guest JJ Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Re: .Net Framework V2 Install Corrupts MS Outlook Biz Contact Mgr I cleaned outlook (said it repaired successfully - not sure what/if anything was wrong). I installed .Net V2 SP1 again (used your verification tool again - and it referenced the error in the install - again). Rendered Outlook inaccessible - again. Have uninstalled .Net V2 SP1 - again - Outlook OK again. In previous note - I was wondering if the info from the "depcheck" file in the tmp folder held any clues as to why the installs are seemingly - failing. I also notice that each time I do an uninstall via the add/remove function - it still leaves the .exe file in the folder that I have downloaded the appl to (I then deleted the .exe file manually). Why do you think I cannot get a clean install of .NETV2 SP1 and why does it appear (except in your verification tool) that it installed correctly? Why does what is getting installed - mess up outlook? I'm sure you are doing all you can to help - do you think we are getting closer to a solution? Sure its as frustrating for you as it is for me!
