Redirected Printer Disappears

One particular terminal server user on a Windows 2003 Terminal server uses

printer redirection to map a local HP 1018 Laser Printer. This has been

working for a year or so. Just recently the printer has been disappearing

from the users profile. They are able to print to it and then it just

suddenly disappears.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Re: Redirected Printer Disappears

Hi Sarah,

This printer is not supported for use with TS by HP. Even if it

was supported it would not be a good option because it is

host-based. Host based printers are not suitable for TS because

they use large amounts of CPU and bandwidth.

HP printers supported in Citrix Presentation Server environments June 2008

The *exception* to this rule under 2003 is if you are using a

third-party Universal Printer Driver.

For stability reasons I would recommend removing the 1018

driver from your server. Disappearing printers is usually a sign

of the spooler service crashing.
