Problem Installing SP3 to XP

Greetings:

The install was slow and appeared to virtually halt during "Creating

Backup Files". I canceled the installation but had to "alt-ctrl-del"

to get out of the process. A real mess! Then did System Restore. I

went through this failed process twice. All works well now without

succeeding to install SP3.

Questions -

Typically, how long should a successful installation take?

Given that I used "alt-ctrl-del" to abort two failed installations,

have I created an excessive number of worthless (backup) files or

other problems on my hard drive? If so, is there a safe way to delete

them?

Thanks!!

Re: Problem Installing SP3 to XP

A1. If you're installing WinXP SP3 via Automatic Updates or Windows Update,

it could take 2 hours or more for the installation to complete, depending on

server demand.

A2. I wouldn't worry about it.

WinXP SP3 - Read all prerequisites for a successful installation

http://msmvps.com/blogs/harrywaldron/archive/2008/05/08/windows-xp-sp3-read-all-prerequisites-for-a-successful-installation.aspx

Steps to take before you install WinXP SP3

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for

Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and

e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada. Go to

http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=1173 | select "Windows

XP" then select "Windows XP Service Pack 3"
