Change the boot order to boot from CD first, then you may be able to try repairing or reinstalling Windows. Replies are made to the newsgroup, not to e-mail addresses. Bill

Yeah, f-key, f-keeeeey!!! Sorry. Anyway, you’re probably asking about F8. Press F8 to bring up the advanced options menu to select safe-mode etc. If you’re asking about /booting/ from the CD to do a repair-install, you press any key (space is good) when you see the prompt at the bottom of the screen. It should give you a few seconds. -- Alec S. news/alec->synetech/cjb/net

Note that he said he has his "copy of Windows XP in the CD ROM drive." > If you're asking about /booting/ from the CD to do a repair-install, > you press > any key (space is good) when you see the prompt at the bottom of the > screen. To Richard: In case you do want to perform a repair install but your PC is not booting off the CD drive, you need to enter the BIOS to configure your PC to boot off your CD drive rather than off the hard drive. If you saw Rich's post, his link contains another link that answers your question: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm And again, here is the link for repair install instructions: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm In the future, please refrain from posting in all caps. Not only is "shouting" considered rude, but it is difficult to read. Please use mixed-case. Also, posting your unmunged e-mail address will undoubtedly result in more spam arriving in your inbox. Finally, since this is Usenet, answers should appear in this thread, so you shouldn't be asking for private replies in the first place. This has the added benefit that others who have similar issues will be able to see the solutions, too.

Very often, an F-key is necessary to access the BIOS. He already put his disk in the drive and he said he wants to "repair Windows." So I'm ninety-five percent sure OP is referring to how to make it possible to boot off the CD-ROM drive. But I've been wrong many times in the past. :-) > Hopefully he takes a look here for answers instead of his email. Agreed. He's using Microsoft's godawful Web interface, so that's not a great sign. :-(
