Neil Cooper Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Okay best to describe this in steps okay first everythings plugged in as normal E.G. charger however thats were everything changers 1. turn on (this usually takes a good long 3sec pressing down on the power button before anything happens) 2. it will turn on and then straight away the caps lock, num lock, and fuction light comes on for a split second and then turns off. To get it to even turn on again requires you to take the battery out for a minuet or so then plug charger back in and then press the power button like a mad man untill comes on again but it will just do this again. few days ago i managed to get it to successfully boot a few times after removing the RAM and Re-seating it that seemed to work. only now tried to turn it on today was working for about 30mins then all started again. its been taken to a few shops before me and my mate was told was a problem with the switching between battery and power cord (thats confusing me cause i had it working by re-seating the RAM) I just want to know is it a power issue or a RAM issue or even corrupt BIOS and or does this happen if the wrong proccessor is installed. thanks again. Plastic Nev Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Hi Neil, it does sound a bit likely to be a power problem. When the power lead is plugged in, does it show on the indicator, and also the battery charging or charged indicator? Do you see any flickering of those lights if you gently move the power plug side to side? Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. Plastic Nev Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 OK Neil, thanks for that last post, the charge light going out, plus the need to be on charge before it will run sounds a lot like a fault in the power management circuit. I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 which may be similar, I don't know for sure, but the power management on mine is part of the motherboard. I know that from when it burned out on me a couple of years ago. Under warranty at the time, so got a new motherboard fitted. If yours is similar, then a new motherboard will be the answer, but an expensive one I would think, unless you know someone good with a soldering iron and test gear. Nev.
