pumpkin_head Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Hey guys, I'm a bit of a Noob when it comes to PC, more of a console kinda guy traditionally. But wanted to play Starcraft on my new PC so bought myself a HDMI cable from the local store, however, although the picture quality is fine I can not get any audio output at all. Searched a few forums but everything is just confusing me and people are talking about accessing the mother board and all sorts which is beyond the scope of my knowledge when it comes to PC. I have messed about with the audio settings in the control panel as well but still no luck. Was hoping for an obvious "switch audio to HDMI" option but couldn't find that haha. Should I just return the cable because there is no chance of me getting it to work or is there something I can do?? Thanks in advance Quote
pumpkin_head Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 I should probably add that before I messed around with the HDMI was using a D-SUB cable to connect the PC and the monitor and just standard dell speakers for the sound. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Hello and welcome.... Could you list the make and model of your computer please, monitor etc..... However is your monitor HDMI capable? Have you simply tried an update of your sound card, monitor and graphics card driver and software? On updating the graphics card hardware driver you may need to update the software such as ATI Catalyst or NVIDIA control panel.... If you have a Reatek sound card you will also need the software that comes with it as well as the hardware driver... To set up a monitor/graphics card you have to use Windows setting and the graphics card software.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Plastic Nev Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 One important question, does the monitor you are connecting to have speakers built in? If so, check the monitor settings, it may be turned off there. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Vr5fx Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Right click on the speaker in the system tray, Click on playback devices Right click in the white space on the list and click "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices" Can you list what options are listed? As an example I will list mine; "Samsung-1 (Nvidia High Definition Audio) Not plugged in" "Speakers (Via High Definition Audio) Default Device" "SPDIF Interface (TX1)(Via High Definition Audio) Ready" "HD Audio HDMI out (Via High Definition Audio) Disabled" When I used HDMI I have to right click on "Samsung-1" Right click and select "Enable" (If disabled), right click again and select "Set as default device" click on "test" You should get a bell like chime through the speakers (again, assuming your monitor has inbuilt speakers and they are turned up as well as your system volume). I forever had trouble with using HDMI, wanted to throw my laptop out the window once.. Hope you get it fixed!
