Guest Bruce Leavitt Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I use netscape composer for ftp stuff, having a problem. Because it needs to write to a temp folder. I think I found the problem in that the netscape folder has read only clicked. I tried unclicking and applying but it does not stay? I tried safe mode in admin mode with no luck tried doing individual folders with no luck when I click the apply, doesn't so anything I know in previous versions it would sift the files and folders and unlock them? thanks Bruce
Guest Bob I Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Re: Read only folder, changing attribute That checkbox has nothing to do with whether the folder is read-only or not and has no effect on the folder itself. Look elsewhere for your problem, or describe it for the other users to help you. Bruce Leavitt wrote: > I use netscape composer for ftp stuff, > having a problem. Guest Bruce Leavitt Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Re: Read only folder, changing attribute It use to be when I copied back from a disc to the hd that I had to change the it from read only (the read only box has a green square not a check) or I could not write to anything in the folder? When I open composer and publish to the site, it comes back could not post the file /Cl/docume~owner/locals~1/temp/nscomm40/tmp/tmp2/pub10.tmp because fin.html: permission denied You may not have permissions to write to this directory check the permission and try again that is a straight line after the C "Bob I" <birelan@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:uVtVHUsDJHA.4824@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > That checkbox has nothing to do with whether the folder is read-only or > not and has no effect on the folder itself. Guest Bob I Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Re: Read only folder, changing attribute Then you need to take ownership of the folder so you do have permission to write there. See Take Ownership of files or Folders in Help or this link How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421/en-us Bruce Leavitt wrote: > It use to be when I copied back from a disc to the hd that I had to change > the it from read only (the read only box has a green square not a check) or > I could not write to anything in the folder? > > When I open composer and publish to the site, it comes back could not post > the file /Cl/docume~owner/locals~1/temp/nscomm40/tmp/tmp2/pub10.tmp because > fin.html: permission denied > > You may not have permissions to write to this directory check the permission > and try again > > that is a straight line after the C > "Bob I" <birelan@yahoo.com> wrote in message > news:uVtVHUsDJHA.4824@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > >>That checkbox has nothing to do with whether the folder is read-only or >>not and has no effect on the folder itself.
