Newly purchased from where? If you just bought this from HP, call their tech support. HP/Compaqs come with Windows preinstalled so did you really buy a used computer? If the latter, problems with installing an operating system are usually caused by: 1. Faulty installation disk. Try the install disk on a different computer. 2. Faulty optical drive. Swap it out for a known-working one. 3. Faulty hard drive. Test using a diagnostic utility. 4. Faulty RAM. Test using a diagnostic utility such as Memtest86+. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic! Newly purchased PCs from major brands come with an OS. If you want to install an OS that is NOT tied to the PC then cross your fingers. -- http://www.bootdisk.com/
