Guest tshad Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I am getting an error on startup after doing windows update. Never saw this before. The ordinal 49 could not be located in the dynamic link library MAPI32.dll Looking on the Web, it seems that if you run Fixmapi.exe, this should fix it. It doesn't on my machine. Doesn't seem to do anything - just goes right back to a command prompt. I have 3 Mapi files: MAPI32.000 that is 110KB MAPI32.DLL that is 145K MAPI.DLL that is 81K What happened here? How can I fix this? Thanks, Tom
Guest Rui Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Re: Startup Error If this is a WinXp or Vista box then use system restore to go back to before the update. Then copy Mapi32.dll to a temp place and do the update again. You will also have the working Mapi32.dll if the update fails again. You should just be able to copy it back to it;s original place and replace the bad one. -- Rui "tshad" <tfs@dslextreme.com> wrote in message news:Oe9Xwd2DJHA.936@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... >I am getting an error on startup after doing windows update. Guest Peter Foldes Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Re: Startup Error You will need to go to c:\ProgramFiles\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033\MSMAPI32.DLL and delete or rename the file. Once that is done, launch Outlook . Reconfigure your mail settings and everything should be good to go. The file may also be located in c:\winnt\system32. There may be a backed up version of it that you can restore. Do not under any circumstances download this file from the Internet. This is most likely a virus. -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged.
