Go back into the Bios and look for Default Settings - click on that - then Click Save all changes and then Exit. F10 may be listed as Save settings and Exit. Let us know the make and model number of your Pc. Quote

Try taking the CMOS ( silver coin-shaped ) battery out of the motherboard for 30 seconds > replace > re-boot. the + side of the battery is on top Before you do - switch off at the wall - leave the plug in to maintain the earth connection to the m/board. Bluesplayer. Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 The Bios settings may be correct as it is now showing NTLDR. The operating system [Win Xp] may be where the problem lies. Why did you need to access the Bios? Can you borrow an Xp install Cd - it will need to be the same as installed - Home - Professional? You can use it to scan your Pc - but not of course to re-install Xp. Quote

I did but a new dvd/rw in and it made pc run slow and none of the drivers worked ether. but was still able to work pc. Quote
Bluesplayer. Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Unless you have the install Cd - or you can get the Pc to start, there is no way of knowing what version of Xp is installed. Id completely disconect the DVD drive from the Pc - as a test. One possible cause include corrupt and misconfigured files and or bad sectors on the hard drive. But without the install Cd - there is no way of scanning the drive for errors. You may be able to save what is on the hard drive [files and data] by making it a slave drive on a working Pc. You will then need to buy a new Xp install Cd with the 25 digit product number and then do a clean install Xp. You may be able to if your system specifications allow, install Win 7. Possible ways of saving files and data from a non starting Pc. Bluesplayer. Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 (edited) If you mean the Bios. The fact that it is saying NTLDR means that it sees the hard drive but cannot boot [start] from it. Setting the Bios to Default Settings seems to have set the bios back to a working order. What is now damaged is the Windows Xp installation and without an Xp Cd - you will not be able to scan the drive and repair any install and boot errors. If you had the correct install Cd - doing this may fix the problem. Boot from the Xp install Cd...when prompted press [R] Choose Windows installation [typically by pressing [1] When prompted for password. Press Enter. Type chkdsk /r [note space after chkdsk] When fininshed. Type Exit And press Enter. Edited February 22, 2012 by Bluesplayer. Quote

Log on to here to access the link in post #13 and burn a copy of the Recovery Console to a Cd. Quote
