Guest cmgith Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I figured there would be a lot of posts on this subject, but after using the forum search multiple times have found nothing similar. Hope you can help me. A friend thought he was doing me a favor and installed IE8 Beta2 as a surprise. Previously I had IE7. I've got XP Home, SP3. The new installation of IE8 has caused more problems than I can fix fast enough (script errors, add-ons, incompatible searches, unrecongnized commands, etc etc) It's horrible, or rather to be fair it's incompatible with my computer at this time, and instead of reconfiguring every setting I can find to make it work, I want it gone. But how do you uninstall it? it's not in Add/Remove Programs and isn't listed in the few secondary unistallers i've got. I plan to use Unlocker and delete it all from Explorer, but thought I'd ask first. Thanks. Candace -- cmgith Posted via http://www.xpheads.com

Candace Hopefully, the instructions in the link PA Bear provided will help: If Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 does not appear in the Currently Installed Updates list, run the following command at an elevated command prompt: From: http://support.microsoft.com:80/kb/949787 FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages/M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-8*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart" (oops, these directions are for *Vista*) Hmmm, it looks like you may be stuck with it! See "Microsoft warns of IE8 lock-in with XP SP3": http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9113739 (or http://tinyurl.com/5pqg24 ) Still, can't hurt to try the IE8 Beta newsgroup: http://news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.internetexplorer.beta Hopefully, your friend won't surprise you anymore...
