Hi Hope you can help with this one? A few year back I bought the Acer Aspire 9301 loaded with Vista, AMD Turion processor and a 80 Gb HDD. I had loads of problems with Vista so I decided to upgrade the OS with a genuine copy of Win7 Pro(full version). 2 problems ocurred, one is system info only displays 40 gig divided into 2 partitions and secondly, can't get any Acer support software to work - can't find anything for Win7 on their website?

The solution I thought of for the HDD was too wipe the HDD(2 partitions created by Win7, I think) in command prompt(format) and completely reinstall Win7 Pro, not sure if that would work though or if it would accept the product key again?

Thanks

Hello Michael your best way would be wipe the drive and start afresh , as long as your windows 7 is a full version , boot up with the dvd in wait till it get pasts the windows is loading files etc it will then arrive at the upgrade or custom install , select custom install it will then show your drives if you click delete on both drives it will create 1 drive you can then proceed with a fresh windows 7 install on the one drive , on a 80 gig drive after updates etc and the service pack have installed you will be left with 60 to 65 gig of free space

Hi and a welcome from me too.

As a further addition to Armageddon's good advice, if you can afford it, why not fit a new and bigger drive? Then just follow up what Armageddon said.

The old 80GB drive can then be fitted to an enclosure and used as an external drive.

Just saying hello and welcome.

Hi Ken B thanks for saying hello - I'm Michael over here in Liverpool City Centre L3, hope your doing alright.

Hi to Armaggedon and Plastic Nev as well, really appreciate your advice. I'll look into getting a larger hard drive as you suggest when I've hopefully sorted out this cantankerous 80 gig one.

Thanks again,

Michael
