Guest Michael Haskell Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Running a Windows 2003 server and I'm running low on C drive space. So I've done the following 1. Repointed the spooler directory using print server properties -> Advanced -> D:\ blah blah 2. There are also two default shares print$ which point to C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers and prtprocs$ C:\WINDOWS\system32\prtprocs\w32x86. The print$ share as some 300 mb of files in it. 3. I copies the content of both folder to the D drive repoint the shares to the D drive and mirrored the share and NTFS permission. I did not delete the original location at this point. 4. Restarted the server and I can print. But when I run the Print Migrator tool and locate the drive path for any of the printers they still point to the C drive. Because of that I'm afraid to delete the folders. Is there another step or a registery hack I need to perform? Any help would be appreciated
Guest Alan Morris [MSFT] Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Re: Moving Print Server Shares print$ & the spooler only reads and writes print driver files in %systemroot%\system32\spool\drivers and print processors in %systemroot%\system32\spool\prtprocs You can change the print$ share but any new drivers added to the machine would need to be manually copied to the new location and you won't solve the original drive space issue Print Mig creates a big log file when you run it locally. Check under %systemroot%\system32\spool\pm for logs that can be moved. -- Alan Morris Windows Printing Team Search the Microsoft Knowledge Base here: http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Guest Michael Haskell Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Re: Moving Print Server Shares print$ & Alan Thanks for the info. The pm.log is 162kb nothing to serious in terms of size. Given your reponse I'll revert the shares back to their original setup. Plan B I'll compress the documents and setting folders and set explorer "temporary internet file folder to 1mb from 127mb. Restart install some applications to the d drive - such as Mcafee. Thank you! Guest Alan Morris [MSFT] Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Re: Moving Print Server Shares print$ & You can change the IE temp location to d:. I don't have many Server 2003 systems any longer but I also attempt to remove files from \system32\dllcache. Just check there as another location for clean up. -- Alan Morris Windows Printing Team Search the Microsoft Knowledge Base here: http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
