unable to connect on Windows XP SP2 - though able to ping???

my laptop connection to the internet is no longer working - none of my

programs are able to connect (IE, Firefox, Skype for instance), except for

ping which still works - I can ping the gateway, and get seemingly normal

response times.

When I bring up IE or Firefox after a while my Firewall (ZoneAlarm) asks

whether program called "WLLogin Proxy" should be allowed to access the

internet. I had not seen this program request access before I started having

problems with my internet connection. I did a search on wllogin on

microsoft's support site and did not get any hits. Do you know what this

program is? I checked my IE configuration to make sure someone did not

reconfigure it to go through a proxy - but found no issues there.

I have gone through the normal steps - powered down my cable modem and

router, tried wireless and wired connections - all to no avail.

Any of you have suggestions for me?

Thank you!!

First try to Restore to an earlier point when your machine was working okay!

If that doesn't correct your issue then here some info and stpes to take:

WLLoginProxy.exe is Windows Live Login Proxy and Part of Messenger 8.

Located here:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WLLoginProxy.exe

If you have msn staring up and want to connect that can expalin but Bear in

mind you can be infected and the hjackware/viral infection want to use the

open port for MS to gain access and call Home!

If you rmachine is clean you can try to start with Clean Boot by using

Msconfig and uncheck All uneccessry programs and see if that will help.

To repair the internet connection try this:

Open a run command and type these commands:

ipconfig /flushdns click [OK]

ipconfig /renew click [OK]

netsh winsock reset click [OK] and Reboot your machine, do you get internet

connection?

1... Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet

Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window

you will see these Options:

General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs

| Advanced .

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called

[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on

[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [

Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

Click on Connections tab then click LAN Settings Button, there make sure

nothing checked.

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your

browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:

Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable

the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one

later and see which is the culprit .

How to manage Add-Ons:
