ildestino Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Hoping someone is able to assist. I have a HP G56 laptop running on Windows 7 Home Premium. I am not particularly computer literate and having experienced several 'slow running' problems and error messages in programs and explorer advising 'Not Responding', I have now purchased a new laptop. I want to restore the original laptop to factory settings and although I have a set of three HP Recovery Discs that came with the machine, I receive the following error message: Oxc000000f The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible I am not worried about losing any data etc.....I just want to rest this dissapointing laptop to its 'as new' state. What do I need to do ? Thank you in anticipation of your help ! Quote
RandyL Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Considering the symptoms it could be a failing drive. Since this is a HP it might have the option to run a built in drive test. Look at this article. http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00439024&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=1132551#N45 Quote We are all members helping other members. After presing F11 on start up , I get a message saying Boot MGR is missing, press CTRL, ALT DELETE to restart. From there, I end up at th same Boot Error message screen as originally posted here. Thanks for your help. Can you suggest anything else to resolve the problem? Quote
KenB Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 From the link Randy gave you the key to press is F10. Plug the AC Adapter into the computer. Turn off the computer and wait 5 seconds. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the f10 key to enter the BIOS Setup menu. Use the Right Arrow or Left Arrow keys to navigate through the menu selection to locate the Primary Hard Drive Self Test option. Depending on your BIOS, this may be located below either Diagnostics or Tools . Select Primary Hard Drive Self Test , and then press the Enter key to start the test. ================= Whilst you are in the BIOS take a look for Boot Sequence / Boot Order or similar. Check to see if the CDROM is the first boot device. If it isn't - you need to change it. Don't forget to Save and Exit - usually F10 - it will say on screen. Have now run the test and hard drive passed so thats not the problem I am afraid. Not sure what other options I should follow now? Quote
Plastic Nev Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Hi, Follow Kens advice as quoted below> ================= Whilst you are in the BIOS take a look for Boot Sequence / Boot Order or similar. Check to see if the CDROM is the first boot device. If it isn't - you need to change it. Don't forget to Save and Exit - usually F10 - it will say on screen. Once you have changed the boot order to start at the CDROM, put in the disks you have, it should then run through the restore back to factory condition from there. Nev.
