Guest Jeff Stanton Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Lately I've noticed a lot of hard disk activity on my HP laptop running XP Pro SP2. Looking at the process list shows something called System Idle Process running with a CPU value of from 83 to 94. Any idea what's going on here? Jeff

From Dictionary.com, definition of "idle" ?adjective 1. not working or active; unemployed; doing nothing: idle workers. 2. not spent or filled with activity: idle hours. 3. not in use or operation; not kept busy: idle machinery. The System Idle Process means nothing is happening. You need to look at the *other* processes to see if something unexpected is running. Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
